Full casting for Tennessee Williams’ Sweet Bird of Youth at Chichester Festival Theatre has been announced.

Joining Tony Award-winner Marcia Gay Harden, who makes her UK theatre debut, and Olivier Award-nominee Brian J Smith will be Richard Cordery as ‘Boss’ Finley, Graham Butler (The Curious Incident…) and Emma Amos (Men Behaving Badly).

Sweet Bird of Youth is about a fading Hollywood legend whose comeback film is a disaster, so she travels around under a pseudonym finding drink and drugs on her way.

Harden is best known for her Oscar-winning performance in the 2000 film Pollock, and she won the Tony Award for playing Veronica in God of Carnage on Broadway.

The cast also includes Hester Arden, Matthew Barker, Victoria Bewick, Alex Bhat, Ray Emmet Brown, Ingrid Craigie, Joy Cruickshank, Tim Francis, Kurt Kansley, Rob Ostlere, Sam Phillips, Daniel Tuite and Ewart James Walters.

Incoming artistic director Daniel Evans and executive director Rachel Tackley have announced their first season at the helm of the powerhouse Chichester Festival Theatre, which under the previous regime was responsible for such West End transfers as Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, and Singin’ in the Rain.

Actors set to appear will include the U.K. stage debut of Tony- and Oscar-winning Marcia Gay Harden in a new production of Sweet Bird of Youth; Ian McKellen returning to the role of King Lear that he has previously played for the RSC in a new production; popular U.K. comedy star Omid Djali in Fiddler on the Roof; and Olivier Award winner Sharon D. Clarke in the first U.K.-originated production of Jeanine Tesori and Tony Kushner’s Caroline, or Change. The season will also include new plays by James Graham, Edna O’Brien, and Deborah Bruce.

US medical drama Code Black is returning to the UK in November for its second season.

Kicking off on W on Wednesday 2nd November 2016 at 9pm, the second season welcomes new cast member Rob Lowe (The West Wing) as Col. Ethan Willis. He joins returning stars Marcia Gay Harden, Luis Guzman and Boris Kodjoe.
